Got this to replace another 1710 that I bought in 2007 and it lasted 12 years; why mess with success? Not many features, but is a good basic printer. The one I got is actually a 1710n, since it has a network drop built in. Drum and toner replacements are inexpensive for this machine, being such a old model.

The product replaces a very similar printer that I had for over 10 years. The only problem is that it was the network version, but I ordered the standalone version. However, I used a few workarounds to get it to do everything that I need it to do.

I have had my 1700xl for 8 years now and the paper is jamming. This seems to happen during humid weather - I am blaming the paper, not the printer! Wondering if it should be replaced, but I dont think so..... It has been far too good to us!

Bought this cheap Laser B&W printer in 2005, and it still works very well. Cons: - awful paper jams, requiring tweezers to remove thick paper fans (happened twice in 10 years) - no satisfactory driver for Linux or Mac OS (I use a Windows virtual machine and GhostScript tricks to share the printer) Pros: - a robust, money-saving B&W printer for occasional use. I print 50 to 100 pages a month, and had to change the toner cartridge only twice in 10 years.
