AKG K72 er en rimelig og komfortabel studiohodetelefon med lang kabel og lett design. Lydkvaliteten er grei for prisen, men mellomtonen er uklar og mindre tydelig, spesielt på vokal og instrumenter. Støydempingen er middels fordi øreputene ikke alltid tetter godt, spesielt for brillebrukere. Den faste kabelen er praktisk i studio, men mindre egnet for mobil bruk. Byggekvaliteten er hovedsakelig plast, noe som gjør hodetelefonene mindre robuste. Godt valg for rimelig og komfortabel sporing, men ikke for kritisk miksing.

They may not have been expensive, but what good is it if they don't have bass? I might not know much about this; I'm an amateur, making music as a hobby in Ableton Live, and I've only recently been using these headphones. In the final mix, I boost the bass because there's not enough of it with the reference K72 headphones, and what's the result? The music mixed this way sounds terrible on another audio source because there's way too much bass, dominating the entire project. It's a trap... This is a serious problem for me; I'm not happy with these headphones. They're basically useless.

Without being exceptional, these headphones do the job, reproducing bass very well even at low amplification. Although it's not dramatic, I was a little disappointed with the highs, which were crushed by midrange that was a little too powerful.
