The problem was an old motherboard being fitted into a modern case. The motherboard did not have a USB 3 socket, whilst the case did not have USB 2 connectors for the front-mounted USB sockets. The solution - this USB 3 PCIe add-in card, which provides both a socket connection for the front ports & 2 further USB 3 ports on the back of the case. The fly in the ointment is that the card also has a SATA connector - which the card supplier recommends is connected to the PSU to supply power demands on the USB 3 ports. No problem with connecting it up to a spare PSU SATA connector - but the PC would not then boot. Disconnect the card's SATA connector & everything was peachy. This may be because of the age of the motherboard, or it may have some other cause - but I can't be bothered to find out, because the add-in card serves it's purpose in providing me with functional USB ports on the front of the case. However, that is why it is a 3-star review.

Easy to install, windows recognised it straight away and installed the drivers but I found it necessary to install the the software that came with the card for smoother operation after that all works perfectly.

Good Points: Been able to change the brackets so I could use it in smaller size computer. Improvement Points: Had to purchase a sata power extension cable to get the best out of it. But other than that, I've no complaints.
