Setting the scanner up is not intuitive and the instructions not particularly easy to follow. Anything that comes with a CDROM containing the required software indicates the period in which it was first conceived meaning that it's had to adapt to modern systems rather than be created for them. This shows in the clunky way you need to set it up - not least of which is the need to buy a USB-C adapter if you're using modern computers. It's also quite slow. But.... it's worth it. Picture quality is superb. It handles negatives and slides equally well. The SilverFast 9 software dispenses with scratches and dust exceptionally well. Something I like a lot is the in-built colour grading for film types so the original creative intent of the shot is preserved.

I bought this to replace an old Canon FS4000US slide scanner that died part way into a 500 slide scanning task. After fast delivery from Wex, it was easy to set up. I used Vuescan under Win 11 rather thn the provided software, as I did not have time to learn a new package. I scanned 500 slides in 3 days, with results that look better than the old Canon. I have not yet explored all the options, but it seems to work well and reliably. I am very pleased with it, and will scan some old slides for a direct comparison. So far, very pleased.

I bought this scanner with some trepidation over connectivity with an iMac. Not a problem. The SilverFast 9 app and the Plustek driver CD give trouble free scanning with the latest MacOS (15.5). I am still coming to grips with some of the fine tuning, but I am happy with the results from scans of 30 yr old Kodachrome slides. Good colour rendition, sharp and high resolution when needed.

Shame the scanner does not have 'free' updates to work after forking out £400

Like: It works. And works very well. Yes, it takes time, but so would an equivalent 8x10. The scratch and dirt removal does an amazing job but not a 100% job. On very dirty or scratched slides, it may only be around 50% - but I can understand that considering you are running out of areas to fill in with. The areas it leaves alone is usually (not always) around edges or detailed areas - also understandable. Dislike: Because if the emulsion, you cannot reliably use the scratch and dirt removal on Kodachrome. There are other methods to work with but they are not nearly as efficient. Dislike: Silverfast: Very cool software but not intuitive. As has been reported, it has a very steep learning curve. I would recommend playing around with it to learn the intricacies before committing to scanning in a bunch of slides that you may have to rescan.
