Tijdens mijn studentenjaren was ik een fervent pc-gamer. Ik vond het toen geweldig om uit te zoeken welke hardware er het best paste in mijn budget en behuizing. Jaren later maakte ik de overstap naar consoles. Puur voor het gemak. Met de komst van de Nintendo Switch herwon ik nog meer vrijheid en kon ik gamen waar ik wou. Daarom dat de Asus ROG Ally mij ook enorm aansprak. PC-games spelen in een handig, draagbaar jasje.

Never have I ever soured so quickly on a product like I have the ASUS ROG Ally. The promise of a powerful Steam Deck alternative with all the freedoms of a Windows system sounded like a dream; handheld emulators on the go, a Switch-like experience that could double as a personal computer… Some of those dreams came true, sure. But ultimately, the ASUS ROG Ally is a bit of a letdown. A half-baked attempt to enter the ring with Valve and Nintendo that simply doesn’t understand the allure of those devices– the simplicity.

The ROG Ally is a perfect option for PC gamers who don't mind tinkering and tweaking. It's not for everyone though, as the user experience frustrations caused by Windows might annoy some. However, the upshot is the access to many more games on the go.
